Ben Affleck and actor Daniel Day-Lewis picked up the top prizes at the annual British Academy of Film and Television (BAFTA) awards ceremony at London's Royal Opera House this morning.

Affleck won the best director award for Argo, which also took out the best film award.The film is a drama about the dramatic rescue of American hostages in Iran in 1979, and has already won a number of US awards, including best movie drama at the Golden Globes.Day-Lewis was named best actor for his title role in Steven Spielberg's historic drama Lincoln.He beat out Australian actor Hugh Jackman, who was nominated in the category for his role in the musical Les Miserables.Day-Lewis has already won a Golden Globe and other prestigious US awards for the role.
